Tragedy Strikes as Neglected Building Collapses

In Dhrangadhra, Jamnagar, a child lost its life when dilapidated walls of a dormitory for the socially backward community collapsed. Another child was injured while trying to escape during the incident. The building, which was over 50 years old, was shut down in 2008 due to safety concerns. Families of laborers residing nearby had constructed shanties for accommodation. Their children used to play in the vicinity during the evenings. However, tragedy struck when the walls collapsed, leaving two children injured and causing panic among their families.

In front of the Nuri High School in Dhrangadhra, the dormitory of the Vanakar community collapsed. The building, which had become dilapidated, was shut down in 2008 due to safety concerns. Families of laborers residing nearby had constructed shanties for accommodation. Two children, Gopal Chandalia and Aaropi Parmar, were playing in the area in the evening when the wall collapsed suddenly, trapping both of them amidst the debris. Immediate action by the local authorities helped rescue the trapped children, but unfortunately, Gopal succumbed to his injuries while Aaropi was rescued for medical attention.

Neglected Building’s Demolition Delay Raises Questions

The reason behind not demolishing the dilapidated building in Dhrangadhra, which now houses the dormitory, despite its hazardous condition, is now being questioned. It has been revealed that the building in question is a staggering 50 years old. Although its usage was discontinued in 2008 due to safety concerns, it has come to light that requests for reconstruction of the building were made to the Department of Social Welfare. However, due to bureaucratic delays, the reconstruction process was not initiated, ultimately leading to this tragic incident today. The police have arrived at the scene to conduct further investigations into this matter.
