CBSE Approves Bi-annual Board Exams from Academic Year 2025-26, Exams in January and April

The Ministry of Education and schools nationwide have agreed to conduct Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations twice a year starting from the academic session 2025-26. From this session onwards, CBSE will organize board exams for both classes in January and April. The exams will be conducted for the first time in January 2026 and again in April of the same year.

Flexibility for Students in These Examinations

Students of Class 10 and Class 12 will have the option to participate once or twice in their board exams according to their convenience. Those seeking to improve their results can participate in both sessions of the exams. In both board examinations, students can choose their best score. Alternatively, students can opt to participate in only one session if they prefer.

Old Syllabus to Continue for 2025-26 Academic Session

According to information from the Ministry of Education, the board exams for the academic session 2025-26 will be conducted based on the old syllabus. It is expected to take 2 years for the new syllabus books to be introduced. After the arrival of the new books, new textbooks for classes 8th, 10th, and 12th will be available starting from the academic session 2026-27.

Ministry of Education Introduces Three Options for CBSE Board Exams

The Ministry of Education offered three options for CBSE board exams. Out of these, principals from over 10,000 schools across the country have chosen the third option. This option suggests conducting board exams in two sessions, similar to the format of the JEE Main exam, allowing participation of all students.
