Plane Crash in Brazil, 61 Dead: Plummeted 17,000 Feet in One Minute, Caught Fire; Incident in São Paulo’s Vinhedo City

A plane carrying 61 people crashed in São Paulo, Brazil, with all passengers confirmed dead according to official reports.

In a statement, Voepass Airlines confirmed that the plane, en route to São Paulo’s Guarulhos International Airport, crashed. The aircraft had 57 passengers and 4 crew members on board. The cause of the accident is still unknown.

The crashed plane was registered as PS-VPB, ATR 72-500, with a total seating capacity of 74. However, reports suggest that 62 people were on board at the time of the crash.

The plane caught fire after the crash. Some people present there recorded the incident on camera.

Plane Plummets 17,000 Feet in One Minute

According to CNN reports, flight tracking data shows that the plane began losing altitude just a minute and a half before the crash. By 1:21 PM local time, the plane was flying at an altitude of 17,000 feet. In just 10 seconds, it dropped approximately 250 feet.

Over the next eight seconds, the plane ascended around 400 feet, but then it plunged 2,000 feet. Following this, in less than a minute, the aircraft rapidly descended by nearly 17,000 feet, eventually crashing and catching fire.

Brazilian TV network Globonews showed footage of flames and smoke from the plane.

Plane Crashes into Residential Area, Colliding with Several Homes

According to CNN Brazil, the Civil Defense department reported that the plane crashed into a residential area, colliding with several homes in the process. The Voepass flight had departed from Cascavel and was headed to São Paulo when it lost signal at 1:30 PM Brazilian time.

Voepass Airlines stated that the exact cause of the crash and the current status of the people on board have not yet been confirmed.

President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said there were probably no survivors on board the plane.

Seven Fire Brigade Teams Deployed for Rescue Operations

In response to the plane crash, seven teams, including military police units, were deployed to rescue victims. 

According to an official statement, teams from the Legal Medical Institute (IML) and personnel responsible for collecting bodies were also sent to the crash site. Unfortunately, official reports confirm that no passengers survived the accident.
