BJP Worker Opens Fire at Surat Wedding, Injures Two Guests; Caught on CCTV
An incident of celebratory firing occurred during a wedding in Surat’s Dindoli area, where BJP worker Umesh Tiwari fired five rounds from his revolver while dancing to DJ music. Two young men dancing at the event were shot in their legs and had to be hospitalized. The entire incident was captured on CCTV. Umesh Tiwari has been a long-time active member of the BJP and has been seen in photographs with prominent city leaders.
Police Investigation and Firing Details
The police brought the accused to the scene and conducted a detailed investigation. Umesh fired three rounds in the air and two rounds toward the ground. A bomb squad team also arrived at the location as part of the investigation.
Incident Caught on CCTV
On December 8, around 11 PM, Umesh Tiwari, the owner of Danish Cake Shop and a BJP worker, was dancing at a friend’s wedding in Shakti Society, Dindoli. To show off, Umesh pulled out his licensed revolver and fired three rounds in the air and two more while dancing among the crowd. Due to his negligence, two individuals sustained injuries while dancing. The reckless firing was clearly recorded on CCTV cameras installed at the venue.
Injured Youth Seen Collapsing on Chair in CCTV
The CCTV footage shows one of the injured youths collapsing onto a chair and eventually falling to the ground after being shot. Despite the incident, Umesh Tiwari is seen casually holding the revolver. Reports confirm that the revolver used in the incident is licensed. One of the injured individuals, who runs a pani puri business, was shot in the leg.
Umesh Tiwari Arrested by Police
Dindoli police registered a case and arrested BJP worker Umesh Tiwari for firing in the air. The revolver used in the incident was also confiscated.
DCP Orders Action to Revoke License
DCP Bhagirath Gadhvi stated that Umesh fired three rounds during his family member’s wedding and one to two additional rounds, causing injuries to two individuals. One of the injured, Santosh Dubey, filed a complaint, and another victim, Virendra Vishwakarma, was also injured. A case has been filed against the license holder for negligent firing, and steps to revoke his revolver license have been initiated. Reports suggest that Umesh has held the revolver license for the past four years.
Aspiration for Political Position
Umesh Tiwari, an active BJP member for several years, is known to associate with prominent city leaders. Originally from Uttar Pradesh, he has been living in Surat for many years and is currently vying for the position of Ward President for Ward No. 27 in Dindoli. He had previously sought a ticket for the Surat Municipal Corporation elections and is known for portraying a domineering image in his area, often seen carrying a revolver on his waist.
Questions Raised Over Revolver License
Photos of Umesh Tiwari with local leaders and police officials have been circulated on social media. Despite running a cake shop, the necessity of a revolver license for him is being questioned, sparking a debate about the basis on which the license was issued.
