Protesters in Bangladesh Target Homes of Cricketers, Judges, MPs, and Businessmen: PHOTOS

Bangladesh is in turmoil. There is anger among the people, and everyone is horrified by the brutality of the protestors. Neighboring countries are also concerned. The mob is targeting everything from the Prime Minister’s residence to the Parliament, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, and the homes of cricketers, politicians, and industrialists. It can be said that the mob is leaving no one in Bangladesh untouched, with looting and arson occurring everywhere. Everything from schools to transportation is shut down. Factories have been locked up, and now the mob is breaking into homes and attacking. Minority Hindus are also feeling insecure.

On Monday, the mob set fire to the home of former Bangladesh cricket captain Mashrafe Mortaza. Mortaza is also a Member of Parliament for the ruling Awami League party and had won the general election this year for the second consecutive time. He was elected from the Narsingdi-2 constituency. According to media reports, after Sheikh Hasina left the country, the protestors arrived at Mortaza’s house in Narsingdi and began vandalizing it. Later, the house was set on fire.

Protestors also looted the residence of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court in Dhaka. Additionally, the residence of the police superintendent in the Ramna area was also vandalized. The mob was seen taking furniture and other valuable items from both residences. Neither the police nor security personnel were present at either residence. According to the Dhaka Tribune, the mob attacked and vandalized the residences of the Chief Justice and the SP. Both houses were empty at the time of the attack, as family members had left the houses. After they left, all security personnel also exited the premises.

The Dhaka Tribune reports that a fire in a Jessore hotel on Monday resulted in the deaths of 8 people, with around 84 others injured. The hotel owner, Shahin Chakladar, is a general secretary of the Jessore district Awami League and a businessman. Deputy Commissioner Abrarul Islam confirmed the fire. Two of the deceased have been identified as 20-year-old Chayan and 19-year-old Sejan Hossain. A staff member at Jessore General Hospital stated that thousands of people in various locations in the city were celebrating Sheikh Hasina’s resignation. During this, some people set fire to and vandalized the Jabir Hotel in the Chittmor area. The district Awami League office and the homes of three more Awami League leaders in the Sharsha and Benapole areas were also attacked by miscreants.

Until yesterday, the protestors had broken into what was formerly the Prime Minister’s office. They looted, ate, and even slept there.

Sheikh Hasina returned to India on August 5 after 45 days. Previously, when she had arrived in India on June 21, PM Modi had given her a red-carpet welcome. This time the story is different. Hasina has indeed come to India, but after resigning from the PM position. This is happening at a time when student protestors have taken over the Prime Minister’s office in Bangladesh.
