Muslim Population Reaches 40%, a Matter of Life and Death for Me: BJP CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s Concern

Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has claimed that the Muslim population in Assam has rapidly increased to 40%. Speaking in Ranchi, he said, “The changing demographics pose a major challenge for me.

In 1951, Muslims constituted 12% of Assam’s population, which has now risen to 40%. We have lost many districts. This is not just a political issue for me but a question of life and death.”

Bangladeshi Hindu Community Alleges Congress for Vote

On July 1st, Himanta Biswa Sarma accused certain communities from Bangladesh of engaging in criminal activities without specifying them. He stated, “There are some communities who practice a particular religion, which is a matter of concern.

I’m not saying only one religion’s people engage in such behavior. But after the Lok Sabha elections, many worrying incidents have emerged.” Earlier, Sarma had mentioned, “People from the Bangladeshi Hindu community have voted for Congress.

Despite that, the central and state governments’ developmental programs have not been properly implemented.”

People from Bangladesh Engaged in Illegal Activities: Chief Minister

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated, “People who have migrated from Bangladesh and settled in Assam are involved in illegal activities. In the 2024 Lok Sabha and Assam Legislative Assembly elections, BJP and the Assam Gana Parishad won a total of 11 seats. Congress secured victories in only 3 seats.

In the 24 Lok Sabha constituencies of Northeast India, BJP won 15 seats this time, suffering significant losses compared to 2019. On the other hand, Congress, which had won 4 seats in 2019, now secured victories in 7 seats. Some people of a particular religion are opposed to our government.

Moreover, their population is increasing in all these states. This is not just a political defeat, but no one can fight against any religion.”
