Ahmedabad Traffic Alert: Driving License Suspension for 3 Helmet Violations
Mandatory Helmet Rule Strictly Enforced in Ahmedabad
Wearing a helmet is essential for the safety of two-wheeler riders, but many avoid it for various reasons. Following Gujarat High Court’s strict stance on the matter, Ahmedabad has seen an intensified helmet enforcement drive over the past three months. Violators are now facing severe consequences, including driving license suspension.
Strict Helmet Drive Ongoing in Ahmedabad for 3 Months
Ahmedabad Traffic Police has been focusing on strict enforcement of traffic rules, particularly the mandatory helmet rule, in light of increasing accidents. Helmets are crucial in reducing the risk of fatal head injuries. To ensure compliance, the Ahmedabad City Police Commissioner initiated a citywide helmet drive three months ago. As part of this drive, those caught without helmets are being penalized, and their licenses are suspended.
850 Licenses Suspended in Ahmedabad District
The Ahmedabad district, covering Ahmedabad RTO, Vastral RTO, and Bavla RTO, has been actively participating in this helmet drive. In the past three months, the city police recommended the suspension of 3,000 licenses for violators. Of these, 1,400 licenses registered under Ahmedabad RTO (GJ-01) were processed, resulting in 850 suspensions so far. Ahmedabad RTO officials have assured that the remaining licenses will be suspended within 7-10 days.
No Helmet? Expect Heavy Penalties
Following the High Court’s intervention, the police are in action mode. The ongoing helmet drive will continue indefinitely until compliance improves. Riders caught without helmets, regardless of the time of day, will face penalties and license suspension. This marks a shift from the usual short-term enforcement drives.
Body-Worn Cameras for Transparency
To prevent conflicts and false allegations of corruption during traffic rule enforcement, traffic police have been equipped with 1,500 body-worn cameras. These cameras will ensure transparency and provide video evidence during disputes. All major traffic junctions in Ahmedabad are now manned by police officers equipped with these cameras.
