Ahmedabadi Engineers Unveil Electric Go-Kart Set to Rival Petrol Cars in Racing: Speeds of 250-300 km, Range of 120 km
In Ahmedabad, two engineer friends have collaborated to create an electric go-kart, which is often used in racing circuits. They have modified a traditional go-kart that runs on petrol into an electric vehicle (EV). The noteworthy aspect here is that, until now, no Indian company has ventured into making electric go-karts.
The two engineer friends, Aditya and Mayank, who reside in Ahmedabad, pursued computer and electrical engineering, respectively, from L. J. College. Mayank Soni has expertise in machine design, and both friends collaborated with each other and other engineering students who were focused on making electric devices. However, there was no one who could create an electric go-kart. Recognizing the demand, they decided to work on developing electric go-karts that not only run on petrol but also offer a faster and more prolonged performance.
Their electric go-kart has demonstrated its capabilities not only on racing circuits but also on the Gandhi Nagar racing track, showcasing its speed and efficiency. This initiative by the two engineers signifies the innovation and potential within India’s engineering community to explore and create sustainable and high-performance electric vehicles.
In racing events, electric cars are now participating. Traditionally, car races, both in India and abroad, have predominantly featured cars running on petrol. However, engineers Aditya and Mayank from Ahmedabad have worked diligently for two months to create an electric racing car. Collaborating with an automobile engineer and an electrical engineer, they have successfully developed an electric racing car capable of reaching speeds of 120 km/h.
Their goal is to further enhance the speed to 250-300 km/h in the future. This initiative marks a notable shift towards electric vehicles in the racing domain, showcasing the potential for high-performance electric cars to compete alongside traditional petrol-powered ones. It’s worth mentioning that the cost of the racing cars is usually in the lakhs, but the one developed by the engineers in Ahmedabad is not only efficient but also cost-effective.

Mayank mentioned that this is a go-kart model designed for racing at a high level. The entry in racing involves converting this go-kart model into an electric vehicle. The goal is to introduce a new identity in the racing world with electric-powered go-karts. The effort is directed towards providing young racing enthusiasts with the opportunity to race in electric vehicles. The aim is to offer aspiring racers at the starting level access to electric vehicles that can compete in racing events worldwide, providing better performance. This go-kart model has been developed to adhere to a speed limit of 90 on the road, but it races on the track at a speed of 120.

The go-kart model is equipped with a battery that can be fully charged in just 2 hours, providing a range of up to 120 kilometers. This model is classified in various categories such as F-1, F-2, F-3, F-4, F-5, Student Formula, and go-kart. After focusing on the go-kart model, the attention is now directed towards the Student Formula, and there is a demand for its technology. Many students are associated with us, expressing their interest and demands. We aim to provide technology related to the Student Formula, enabling us to compete at the national and international levels. Following this, we aspire to move from F-5 to F-1 models.
Aditya plans to create a model that can reach speeds up to 180:
Aditya mentioned that he aims to create a car model that can provide a top speed of 180. He emphasized that the cars he designs can be provided at a price point below 1 lakh. However, he acknowledged that racing cars like F-5 and F-4 tend to be more expensive. Currently, the petrol-powered cars run at a fuel efficiency of 30 to 40 kilometers per liter, while the electric cars can cover a distance of 90 to 100 kilometers on 2 units of electricity. Aditya expressed that although the car is initially designed to run on petrol, it can be converted to electric, making it more affordable. The current racing car model he has developed has a top speed of 120, but he aims to create models with speeds ranging from 150 to 180.
