Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Unveils Dubai SIM Card Smuggling Scam
Ahmedabad Cyber Crime has exposed a significant scam involving the smuggling of SIM cards and bank accounts to Dubai. The operation was uncovered when 55 suspicious SIM cards were intercepted in a parcel at the Shahibaug Foreign Post Office. The scam highlights the misuse of E-KYC processes and the illegal supply of resources to international criminal networks.
SIM Cards Hidden in Carbon Paper
During an inspection at the Shahibaug Foreign Post Office, officials discovered 55 SIM cards concealed in carbon paper within a parcel. The parcel, sent from Vadodara to Dubai, was addressed to a recipient named Surya at the Single Business Tower, Dubai. Following this discovery, the Cyber Crime Police arrested three individuals: Rahul Shah, Kanti Baldaniya, and Ajay Bhaliya.
SIM Cards Sold at ₹450 Each for Gaming Operations
According to ACP Hardik Makadia, Dubai-based online gaming networks require a large number of SIM cards for communication. Ajay Bhaliya procured SIM cards using E-KYC processes, keeping duplicate cards for illegal supply. He sourced SIM cards at ₹300 from Kanti Baldaniya, who received them from Rahul Shah, and sold them for ₹450 each to Dubai. This illegal operation reportedly sent a substantial number of SIM cards to Dubai.
Bank Accounts Used for Criminal Activities
Further investigation revealed that Ajay Bhaliya also supplied over 30 bank accounts to Dubai on a commission basis. These accounts were linked to online gaming activities, and authorities are investigating whether they were used for cyber crimes.
International Gaming Scam Under Scrutiny
The scam’s exposure has prompted deeper investigations into the misuse of Indian resources for global criminal activities. Officials suspect this operation is part of a larger network supplying illegal tools for financial and communication fraud.
