₹1 Crore Worth MD Drugs Seized in Sarkhej: Hidden in Car Tyre, 2 Arrested
Just 6 days after seizing 200 kg of marijuana from Vatva GIDC in Ahmedabad on September 6, the Ahmedabad Crime Branch has once again cracked down on drug trafficking. This time, they confiscated MD drugs worth more than ₹1 crore near Sarkhej. The drug mafia had adopted a new modus operandi by hiding the drugs inside a car’s tire. The police dismantled the tire, removed the tube, and upon further inspection, discovered 1 kg of MD drugs worth ₹1 crore packed in two packets.
Youth Major Consumers of MD Drugs
MD drugs are primarily used by the younger population. The police have initiated efforts to track down how and through whom this drug trade was operating. In this significant operation by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch, two individuals have been arrested.
Police Achieve the Impossible
Harsh Sanghvi stated, “It’s not every day you hear about someone hiding drugs inside a car tire and the police catching them. You all have seen how the drugs were concealed inside the tire. I congratulate the Ahmedabad Police for making the impossible possible by utilizing human intelligence and exposing this new modus operandi to the entire country.”
Large Quantity of Drugs Hidden
According to sources, a tip-off was received late last night that a large quantity of MD drugs was hidden in the Sarkhej area. Following this, searches and raids were conducted in different locations. During the investigation, two suspects were detained, and 1 kg of MD drugs was recovered from them. These drugs are brought in large quantities and distributed through small-time peddlers across different areas. The police suspect increased drug use during upcoming festivals like Navratri, and investigations are ongoing.
Investigating Drug Routes and Delivery Sources
MD drugs are smuggled into Ahmedabad via various routes, with multiple connections involved. The Crime Branch is now probing the drug routes and identifying who ordered the delivery.
Marijuana Smuggled into Gujarat Crossing Four State Borders
The marijuana seized had traveled from Odisha through Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh before reaching Ahmedabad. Police are investigating whether it was supplied to Bharuch and other areas. The police had initially received information about 1100 kg of marijuana being transported, but only 200 kg was found in the raid. The big question remains: where did the remaining 900 kg go? Police suspect that 750 kg of marijuana had already entered Gujarat. The accused are believed to have traveled 1,668 km from Odisha to Ahmedabad via Bharuch.
One Arrested in Bharuch with 5 Kg of Marijuana
The Crime Branch arrested seven suspects with marijuana. During interrogation, it was revealed that the accused had stopped in Bharuch to make a delivery, where they dropped off 200-250 kg of marijuana in just 10 minutes. Another 200-250 kg was delivered elsewhere. The marijuana had been distributed in large quantities but was broken into smaller parts, and the Crime Branch is investigating. One suspect was arrested in Bharuch with 5 kg of marijuana.
7 Arrested Suspects Remanded for 12 Days
On September 6, the Ahmedabad Crime Branch registered a case under sections 8(C), 20(b)(ii)(c), and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs Act against eight suspects. Seven of these suspects were arrested, while one remains wanted. On September 7, the police presented these seven suspects in the Ahmedabad Metro Court, requesting a 12-day remand. The court approved the 12-day remand for the accused.
