Stock Market to Remain Open on Budget Day: Key Details for February 1, 2025

Introduction

The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) will remain open on Saturday, February 1, 2025, due to the presentation of the Union Budget. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will deliver her eighth Union Budget on this day.

Regular Trading Hours on Budget Day

Both exchanges will operate during regular trading hours, from 9:15 AM to 3:30 PM. Additionally, the Commodity Derivatives Segment will also remain open for trading during the morning session on February 1.

Stock Market Openings on Special Occasions

In India, stock exchanges are generally closed on weekends. However, on special occasions, such as the Union Budget, exchanges may hold special trading sessions.

Notably, the stock market was also open on Saturday, February 1, 2020, and Saturday, February 28, 2015, both of which coincided with Union Budget presentations.

Market Performance on December 23

On December 23, 2024, the first trading day of the week, the market closed with significant gains. The Sensex rose by 498 points to close at 78,540, while the Nifty gained 165 points, ending at 23,753. However, the BSE Smallcap index declined by 331 points to settle at 54,817.

Sectoral and Stock-Wise Performance

  • Out of the 30 Sensex stocks, 20 advanced, while 10 declined.
  • On the Nifty, 32 stocks closed higher, and 18 ended lower.
  • The Realty sector led the gains, closing up by 1.47%.
