Bajaj Auto Launches World’s First CNG Bike, ‘Bajaj Freedom 125’

Today, on July 5, Bajaj Auto launched its first CNG bike, the ‘Bajaj Freedom 125’. The company claims it is the world’s first CNG bike. Interestingly, this bike will run on both CNG and petrol! This means it will offer dual fuel options for riding. The bike features a 2-liter petrol tank and a 2-kilogram CNG tank. When both tanks are full, the bike can achieve a range of 330 kilometers. The launch event was attended by Nitin Gadkari, the Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India.

Riders can switch between CNG and petrol with the press of a button. The initial price of the bike ranges between ₹95,000 to ₹1.10 lakh (ex-showroom). Bookings for the bike have started, and deliveries will first begin in Maharashtra and Gujarat. The bike will be launched in other states in phases.

At the launch event, Minister Nitin Gadkari claimed that the cost of operating a CNG two-wheeler would be approximately ₹1 per kilometer.

CNG Bike Tank Survives Truck Run Over Test

The bike has undergone more than 26 safety tests. Even after being run over by a 10-ton truck, the tank did not burst. These tests included 5 front collision tests, 6 side impact tests, 7 vertical drop tests, and 8 truck run-over tests.

The front of the bike features LED headlamps. A standard fuel tank cap cover is provided for refueling both CNG and petrol. Additionally, the bike comes with a reverse LED console equipped with Bluetooth connectivity.

Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG: Longest Seat in the Segment

In terms of design, the bike features an LED headlamp at the front. Bajaj claims that the Freedom 125 CNG bike has the longest seat in the segment. The seat height of the bike is 785mm. Other highlights include a sturdy trellis frame and the segment-first linked monoshock.

Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG: Running Cost ₹1/km

The Bajaj Freedom is equipped with a 125cc single-cylinder engine, producing 9.5 PS of power and 9.7Nm of peak torque. This engine can run on both petrol and CNG. The bike has a 2kg CNG tank placed under the seat.

The company claims that when both tanks are filled, the bike can travel 330 kilometers. At the launch event, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari claimed that the running cost of a CNG two-wheeler would be approximately ₹1 per kilometer.

Bajaj to Introduce CNG Bikes in Various Segments

Bajaj Auto’s MD Rajiv Bajaj stated that the company will target cost-conscious customers with its CNG model. Bajaj says, “We will build a portfolio of CNG bikes, including 100CC, 125CC, and 150-160CC bikes.”
