Volvo XC90 Facelift to Launch in India on March 4: Features a 48V Mild-Hybrid Engine, Competes with BMW X5
Swedish automaker Volvo Cars India is set to launch the facelifted version of its flagship SUV, the Volvo XC90, in the Indian market on March 4. The facelifted XC90 was globally unveiled in September last year and will come with cosmetic upgrades while retaining its second-generation platform.
Powertrain: 48V Mild-Hybrid Technology
Globally, the XC90 is offered with a 2.0-liter turbo petrol engine, available with both 48V mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid technology. In India, Volvo is expected to introduce the SUV initially with the mild-hybrid engine. The XC90 was first launched in 2014 and has been a popular luxury SUV ever since.

Expected Price and Competition
Currently, the Volvo XC90 is priced at ₹1.01 crore, and the facelifted version is expected to start at around ₹1.05 crore (ex-showroom). In the luxury SUV segment, it will compete with models like the Mercedes-Benz GLE, BMW X5, Audi Q7, and Lexus RX.
Exterior Upgrades: Redesigned Grille and 21-Inch Alloy Wheels
The facelifted Volvo XC90 retains the overall design of the current model but features a refreshed front grille with chrome elements. It gets stylish LED headlights with an updated “Thor’s Hammer” LED DRL design. The bumpers have also been revised for a modern look.
The side profile includes traditional pull-type door handles, body-colored ORVMs, and silver roof rails. One of the key highlights is the addition of 21-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. At the rear, the SUV sports a redesigned bumper and a horizontal chrome strip integrated with LED taillights.

Interior Enhancements: 12.3-Inch Driver Display and 11.2-Inch Touchscreen
The Volvo XC90 facelift continues as a 7-seater SUV with a luxurious cabin. It features a three-spoke steering wheel, dual-tone interior theme, and premium leather upholstery. The use of sustainable materials in the cabin aligns with Volvo’s focus on eco-friendly design.
Tech upgrades include a 12.3-inch digital driver display, an 11.2-inch freestanding touchscreen infotainment system, and a premium 19-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio setup. Additional features like a color head-up display, powered seats with ventilation and massage functions, a panoramic sunroof, and a four-zone automatic climate control system with rear AC vents enhance the premium experience.
Safety Features: Level-2 ADAS and 360-Degree Camera
On the safety front, the Volvo XC90 facelift is expected to include multiple airbags, a 360-degree camera, hill descent control, and an electronic parking brake. Additionally, it will feature Level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) with lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control. The 2025 XC90 will also come equipped with parking sensors on all sides, along with a park assist function for added convenience.
With these updates, the Volvo XC90 facelift aims to strengthen its presence in the Indian luxury SUV market while offering advanced technology and safety features to its customers.
