“India and Brazil are among the nations imposing the highest tariffs on U.S. goods. If they charge us 100% or 200%, we will impose the same tariffs on their products,” Trump stated. His administration’s Commerce Secretary echoed this sentiment, emphasizing a “tit for tat” approach to trade relations.

Challenges in U.S.-India Relations

Despite strengthened ties, recent developments have posed challenges. Two major cases—the indictment of Khalistani extremist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu and allegations of corruption against Indian businessman Gautam Adani—have created diplomatic friction.
