Efficient Smartphone MPV with 26Km Mileage: Toyota Rumion Launches at ₹10.29 Lakh
Today (28th August), Toyota Kirloskar has launched the ‘Toyota Rumion MPV’ in the Indian market, based on the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. The company has priced its most affordable 7-seater car, the Rumion MPV, at an initial price of ₹10.29 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Rumion MPV comes with some cosmetic changes, a total of 3 trims, and is available in 6 variants and 5 colors, including a CNG option. The power-packed booking for this car has started from Monday, with customers being able to book it by paying a token amount of ₹11,000. Deliveries will commence from 8th September.
The Rumion is equipped with the latest features like smartphone and smartwatch connectivity. The car’s engine can be started/stopped using a smartphone. The company claims that this car provides a mileage of 20.52kmpl in the petrol variant and 26.11kmpl in the CNG variant.
After Toyota Glanza, Urban Cruiser, and Maruti Suzuki Ignis, the Rumion is the fourth badge-engineered model between the two companies. Alongside, the Japanese car manufacturer Toyota, in the Indian market, positions its MPV portfolio with Innova Crysta, Innova Hiace, and Velfire, followed by the most affordable car.
Toyota Rumion: Design
This car will be manufactured by Maruti Suzuki and supplied to Toyota, much like the Glanza. The new Toyota Rumion has undergone some cosmetic changes similar to the Artiga’s facelift. The most significant change is seen in its front grille, which has been taken from the Innova Crysta. The grille features a honeycomb pattern and is surrounded by chrome.
On both sides of the grille, integrated LED DRLs accompany LED projector headlamps. The front bumper has also been redesigned, with additional chrome elements at the bottom. It also houses fog lamps on both sides. New 7-spoke diamond-cut alloy wheels are present on the sides, setting it apart from the Ertiga.
The car’s side and rear profiles remain unchanged. Rumion’s interior sections receive dual-tone treatment like the Ertiga, with the only difference being the new Toyota logo on the steering wheel. Apart from this, the car shares the 7-seater layout with the Ertiga.
Toyota Rumion: Engine, Power, and Mileage
The Toyota Rumion is equipped with the same 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine as the Ertiga, generating 103hp of power and 137Nm of torque. This engine is available with a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
The Rumion also comes with a factory-fitted CNG kit option. This CNG engine produces 88hp of power and 121.5Nm of torque. The company claims that the car provides a mileage of 20.11 kmpl with the manual transmission, 20.51 kmpl with the automatic transmission, and 26.11 km/kg with CNG.
The car features Toyota’s new “Nio Drive” technology and E-CNG technology alongside the petrol engine. The company states that these technologies enhance the car’s mileage. The Rumion will be available in both petrol (Nio Drive) and CNG (E-CNG) options, providing customers with dual fuel options.
Please note that the term “Nio Drive” and “E-CNG” technology are specific terms and might require additional context or explanation for readers not familiar with them.
Toyota Rumion: Positioning
The Toyota Rumion doesn’t have direct competition. In India’s MPV segment, where Toyota Innova Crysta, Kia Carnival, and Mahindra Marazzo are present, it stands as a premium car. This car comes with a 3-year or 100,000-kilometer standard warranty.
