Electric vehicle manufacturing company Tesla unveiled its first robotaxi, the “CyberCab,” on Friday. The company’s CEO, Elon Musk, presented it at the “V-Robot” event held in California, USA.

The CyberCab is equipped with numerous AI features for autonomous (self-driving) driving. Additionally, the company introduced another autonomous vehicle, the RoboVan, which is capable of transporting up to 20 passengers.

Elon Musk announced that the upcoming autonomous CyberCab will be available for under $30,000, with production expected to start in 2026. This vehicle is based on the company’s Model 3 sedan, which currently has a starting price of $42,000.

Production to Begin in 2026

Musk stated that production will commence in 2026, and the CyberCab can be purchased for under $30,000 (approximately ₹25.18 lakhs). He mentioned that the first autonomous driving features will be introduced on the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y, allowing people to earn money through ridesharing with multiple cars in the future. 

Discussing the technology behind the CyberCab, he noted that it utilizes artificial intelligence (AI) and vision systems.

A Cost-Effective Solution

Elon Musk hopes that they can bring a cost-effective solution through this robotaxi. Notably, the company has decided to rely solely on cameras instead of using sensors to keep the costs under control.
