New Swift CNG Variant Set for September 12 Launch, ₹90,000 Costlier Than Petrol Model

Maruti Suzuki is set to launch the CNG variant of its popular Swift model next week, with the announcement likely to be made on September 12. The Swift CNG will be based on the latest generation of the hatchback, which was launched earlier this year in May with a petrol engine.

Price Expected to Be ₹90,000 More Than Petrol Variant

The Swift CNG will be offered in multiple trims, though it remains to be seen whether Maruti will provide the CNG option for its top-spec variant. The expected price difference between the petrol and CNG versions is estimated to be around ₹80,000 to ₹90,000. The Swift CNG will be powered by a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder Z12E engine. This will be the first time this engine is paired with a CNG system. Maruti has other models in the pipeline that will also be powered by the Z12E engine, including a CNG variant.

Swift Petrol Model Launched on May 9

Maruti Suzuki launched the fourth generation of its Swift model in India on May 9. The company claims that the new Swift offers a mileage of 24.8 kmpl with manual transmission (MT) and 25.7 kmpl with automatic transmission (AMT).

The starting price of the new Swift is ₹6.49 lakh, going up to ₹9.64 lakh. It comes equipped with features like wireless charging, a multi-information screen, and safety features like 6 airbags, ESP, hill hold control, and three-point seatbelts across all variants.

New-Generation Swift Available in 9 Color Options

The new-generation Swift is available in 6 variants and two transmission options. There will be 6 mono-tone color options and 3 dual-tone colors. The mono-tone options include Sizzling Red, Luster Blue, Novel Orange, Magma Grey, Splendid Silver, and Pearl Arctic White.

In dual-tone, the Swift will be available in Sizzling Red with a Midnight Black roof, Luster Blue with a Midnight Black roof, and Pearl Arctic White with a Midnight Black roof. Novel Orange and Luster Blue are the new colors introduced.

Swift Features Z-Series Petrol Engine

The biggest change in the new Swift is its powertrain. The previous K12 four-cylinder petrol engine has been replaced by a new Z-series 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine. This engine generates 82hp of power and 112Nm of torque.

In comparison, the previous model generated 90hp and 113Nm, making the new engine 8hp and 1Nm lower. For transmission, the Swift comes with the option of a 5-speed manual and automatic (AMT) gearbox.

Maruti Aims to Boost Sales with Swift CNG

Maruti Suzuki aims to boost its sales with the Swift CNG. Currently, 34% of the company’s total sales come from CNG models, and there has been a 37% increase in the sales of CNG models compared to last year.

Maruti Holds 73% Share in CNG Car and SUV Sales

Maruti Suzuki holds a 73% market share in the sales of CNG cars and SUVs in India. The company aims to sell over 6 lakh CNG vehicles by FY 2025, which would equal the entire market’s CNG sales in FY 2024.
