Skoda Launches Compact SUV ‘Kailak’ in India
Skoda has introduced its sub-compact SUV, the Kailak, in India, making it the smallest SUV by the Czech brand in the Indian market. With design cues inspired by the popular Kushaq, the Kailak features a cabin accented with silver and chrome highlights against a sleek black and gray theme.
Performance: Kushaq’s Engine Setup
The new Skoda Kailak SUV is expected to share a similar powertrain setup to the Kushaq. It boasts a 1.0-liter TSI turbo-petrol engine, generating 115hp and 178Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox, designed to deliver a smooth driving experience.
Advanced Safety and Features
The Kailak is packed with safety and tech features, such as:
- 6 airbags
- Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)
- 360-degree camera
- Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
- Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
On the tech side, it includes a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system compatible with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, along with a fully digital driver display, ventilated front seats, a wireless phone charger, and a sunroof.
Starting Price at ₹7.89 Lakh
The Kailak is offered in four variants: Classic, Signature, Signature Plus, and Prestige, with an introductory price of ₹7.89 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India). Full pricing details are expected to be disclosed during the Global Mobility Show 2025.
Booking and Availability
Pre-bookings for the Skoda Kailak open on December 2, 2024, with deliveries set to commence on January 27, 2025 after being showcased at the India Mobility Expo. The Kailak will compete with models like the Tata Nexon, Brezza, Mahindra XUV300, Maruti Suzuki Swift, and the Toyota Tigra in the compact crossover segment.
