Shiv Nadar Emerges as India’s Top Philanthropist
Co-founder of HCL, Shiv Nadar, has secured his position as India’s top philanthropist. In the financial year 2023-24, Nadar and his family donated an impressive ₹2,153 crores, averaging daily contributions of ₹5.90 crores. This data was reported in the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2024.
Mukesh Ambani and Bajaj Family Follow in the Rankings
Announced on Thursday, November 7, the list ranks the Nadar family at the top, followed by Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries, with a donation of ₹407 crores for the same period. The Bajaj family ranked third with a donation of ₹352 crores, a 33% increase from 2023.
Top 10 Philanthropists Account for Over Half of Total Donations
The top 10 philanthropists collectively donated ₹4,625 crores, accounting for about 53% of the total contributions listed. Among them, Krishna Chivukula, Susmita, and Subroto Bagchi secured the 7th and 9th positions. Remarkably, six of these top 10 philanthropists focused a significant portion of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds on advancing education.
