Reliance Retail Launches Pilot Project for Quick Grocery and FMCG Delivery in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai
Reliance Retail has launched a pilot project for quick delivery of groceries and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) in certain areas of Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. The company has started offering order delivery within one hour. This information was reported by The Economic Times.
A “hyperlocal delivery” option has been added to the JioMart mobile application for the quick delivery service. Reliance aims to reduce the order delivery time to 30 to 45 minutes. However, the company has not officially provided any information about such a pilot project.
Current Delivery Time for Reliance Retail Orders
According to an industry official, it currently takes Reliance Retail about 12 hours to deliver orders for daily necessities. In some cases, it may take up to three days. The report states that the company is using technology platforms like FYND and Locus for the order fulfillment process.
Previously, the company had launched a service to deliver goods within 90 minutes through JioMart Express, but it was shut down a year ago.
Increased Competition Due to Reliance’s Entry into This Sector
Quick commerce companies like Tata-owned BigBasket’s BBNow, Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart, and Zepto deliver most orders within 10 minutes. Reliance does not want to enter the delivery race as it would require more dark stores and a large recruitment of delivery personnel.
Instead, it will fulfill these orders from its store network and warehouses. Reliance’s entry into quick commerce will increase competition in this sector, as existing companies may face challenges in nationwide presence and financial resources.
JioMart’s Launch in 2020
JioMart is Reliance Retail’s e-tail firm, launched in 2020. The JioMart platform offers products in various categories, including electronics, fashion, beauty, and home decor. Additionally, JioMart has added several Reliance-owned brands such as Urban Ladder, Reliance Trends, Reliance Jewels, and Hamleys to enhance user preferences on the platform.
