IndiGo to Introduce Business Class on Domestic Flights: Starting with Delhi-Mumbai Route

Indigo, India’s Largest Airline by Market Share, to Offer Business Class on Select Domestic Flights from November

India’s largest airline by market share, Indigo, will start offering business class on select domestic flights from November. The company has also introduced a new tab for booking. Bookings will begin tomorrow (August 6).

Business Class to Start on Delhi-Mumbai Route

CEO Pieter Elbers stated that the business class will initially launch on the Delhi-Mumbai route. The airline will introduce business class cabins on 12 domestic routes, including cities like Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, and Hyderabad.

Business Class on India’s Busy Routes

Last week, the company announced its first-quarter results. During this time, the airline’s CEO mentioned that the airline is set to launch business class on India’s busiest routes.

Additionally, the airline is preparing to introduce in-flight entertainment on some domestic routes. Flights between India and Central Asia are also set to commence from August.

Indigo’s Profit Down 12% in First Quarter

In the first quarter of the financial year 2024-25 (January-March), the low-cost airline Indigo reported a profit of ₹2,729 crore. This represents a 12% decline year-on-year (YoY). In the same quarter the previous year, the company’s consolidated net profit was ₹3,091 crore.

Indigo’s revenue from operations increased by 17% year-on-year. In Q1FY25, the revenue from operations was ₹19,571 crore. In the same quarter of the previous year, i.e., Q1FY24, the revenue was ₹16,683 crore.

15 Passenger Aircraft Added, 1.1% Flights Canceled

As of June 30, 2024, Indigo had 382 aircraft in its fleet. During the quarter, the number of passenger aircraft increased by 15. Indigo operated a maximum of 2,029 daily flights during the quarter, including non-scheduled flights. During the quarter, the airline provided secure services to 88 domestic and 30 international destinations. The cash balance was ₹36,100.6 crore, including ₹22,087.6 crore in free cash and ₹14,013 crore in restricted cash. Indigo’s on-time performance in four major metros was 74.8%, with a flight cancellation rate of 1.1%. 2.45 crore domestic passengers traveled with Indigo during this quarter, maintaining a market share of 61%.
