Hyundai Recalls 17,000 Ioniq 5 Cars Due to Battery Control Unit Fault; Free Parts Replacement Offered

Hyundai India has recalled 1,744 units of its electric SUV, the Ioniq 5, due to technical issues. The recall affects models produced between July 21, 2022, and April 30, 2024. Hyundai announced this in a regulatory filing. 

The Ioniq 5 was launched in the Indian market in January 2023, with an ex-showroom price of ₹45.95 lakh. The vehicle features a 72.6 kWh battery pack, offering an ARAI-certified range of 631 km on a full charge.

Technical Fault in ICCU Prompts Recall of Hyundai Ioniq 5

Hyundai India has recalled 1,744 Ioniq 5 electric SUVs due to a fault in the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU). The ICCU, which reduces the high voltage from the main battery pack to charge the 12Wh secondary battery, has been found defective. 

This defect can discharge the 12-volt battery, which powers essential components such as the infotainment screen, speakers, air conditioning, and lights. The affected models were produced between July 21, 2022, and April 30, 2024.

Hyundai India has announced a recall of 1,744 Ioniq 5 electric SUVs due to a fault in the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU). Affected customers will be contacted individually via phone and SMS to schedule an appointment at an official workshop. 

The necessary repairs, including the replacement of defective parts, will be conducted at no cost to the vehicle owners. Customers can also contact Hyundai’s toll-free number, 1800-114-645, for further assistance.

Hyundai Motor India has issued its second recall of the year, this time for 1,744 Ioniq 5 electric SUVs due to a fault in the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU). 

Previously, Hyundai recalled 7,698 units of the Creta and Verna models, equipped with 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engines and CVT automatic variants, due to a potential defect in the electronic fuel pump controller. These affected vehicles were produced between February 13, 2023, and June 6, 2023.
