Hyundai Exter: India’s First Mini SUV with 40+ Safety Features, Starting at 5.99 Lakh
Hyundai Motor India today launched the Exter with an introductory price of 5.99 lakh rupees in the Indian market. The company claims that it is the first car in India in the sub-4-meter mini SUV segment, which offers more than 26 advanced safety features with 6 airbags across all variants and more than 40 safety features in the top-end variant. This car features dual-dashcams and H-TO-CAR Alexa supporting English voice commands along with 60+ Bluelink connected features.
The car is available for online and offline bookings from 8th May. Customers can book it with a token money of 11,000 rupees. Exter will be launched in India with 5 trim variants – EX, S, SX, SX(O), and SX(DT). It comes in 6 single-tone and 3 dual-tone color options. In India, this car will compete with Tata Punch, Citroën C3, Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite, Maruti Suzuki’s Franks, and Ignis.
40+ Advanced Safety Features
On June 15th, the details of upcoming car interiors and amenities were officially unveiled. To set a benchmark in safety, Hyundai has equipped the Xeter with more than 40 safety features, out of which 26 will be available in all variants. Some of the first-segment safety features include TPMS (Highline) and burglar alarm. In addition to these, the car will feature headlamp escort function, auto headlamps, child ISOFIX seat, rear defogger, and rear parking camera.”
First Electric Sunroof and Dash-Cam segment
In the mini SUV segment, the Exter will be the first car to come with voice commands, a smart electric sunroof, and dual (front and rear) cameras with a dashboard display of 2.31 inches. It can be connected to a smartphone.
The dashboard also supports full HD video resolution. Users can capture images from both the front and rear cameras. The dashboard offers various recording modes such as driving (normal), event (safety), and vacation (time lapses) for multiple recording purposes.
First Mini SUV in Hindi-English Command Segment – Home to Car Alexa
The Mini SUV will be equipped with integrated features of safety and security, remote services, location-based services, vehicle diagnostics, and voice assistant. The embedded voice command works even without internet connectivity. These commands can also be given in English.
Hyundai Exter: Interior Design and Comfort Features
The dashboard of the Exter resembles the dashboard found in the Grand i10 Nios and Aura models. It comes with an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system featuring Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Hyundai’s BlueLink connected car tech. It also includes in-built navigation. It can be customized in 10 regional and two global languages.
The screen displays detailed information such as driving statistics, parking assistance, door status, sunroof open/close, and seatbelt reminders for all seats. The car’s interior is stylish and spacious. To enhance the sporty feel inside, the seats are semi-leather upholstered with the ‘Exter’ branding.
Exter Design Elements
When talking about the design elements of a car, the front portion features H-shaped LED daytime running lights (DRL) connected by a slim black strip. The company has provided a completely new grille with a unique design. It is equipped with LED projector headlights. These projector headlights are housed in a sleek case.
The front face is complemented by skid plates and an ‘EXTER’ badge. The blacked-out wheel rims enhance the sporty appearance of the car. The diamond-cut alloy wheels fitted in them further enhance the sporty look. The car is adorned with a floating roof design, bridge-type roof rails, and side body cladding. In addition, it features H-shaped LED tail lamps and alloy wheels similar to the funky design.
Hyundai Exter: E20 Fuel-Ready Petrol Engine
To provide power to the Hyundai Exter, two engine options with 4 cylinders will be available. The first option will be a 1.2L naturally aspirated kappa petrol engine (E20 fuel-ready) that powers Hyundai’s Grand i10 Nios, i20, and Aura. This engine generates 82bhp of power and 113Nm of peak torque.
This engine will be tuned with a 5-speed manual transmission (5MT) and a Smart AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) gearbox. The second option will be a 1.2-liter bi-fuel (petrol-CNG) engine, which will be tuned with a 5-speed manual transmission.
