Fastag Without KYC to Cease from April 1: Banks to Deactivate or Blacklist

If you haven’t updated your Fastag KYC from the bank yet, do it today. Because after March 31st, banks will deactivate or blacklist Fastags without KYC. After this, you won’t be able to recharge your Fastag balance.

NHAI has informed Fastag users to complete the KYC process for Fastag as per the regulations of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), so that any inconvenience can be avoided without the Fastag facility.

Each vehicle will have only one Fastag

Customers can now use only one Fastag per vehicle. According to NHAI, Fastag users will have to follow the ‘One Vehicle, One Fastag’ policy, and all previously issued Fastags will have to be returned to their respective banks. Only newly issued Fastags will remain active now.

NHAI has initiated the ‘One Vehicle, One Fastag’ campaign to reduce the time spent at toll plazas and facilitate toll collection through Fastag. Issuing multiple Fastags for one vehicle has been discontinued according to recent reports by NHAI, citing violations of RBI regulations by issuing Fastags without KYC.

What is Fastag?

Fastag is a type of tag or sticker affixed to the vehicle’s windshield. It operates on Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. This technology scans the barcode on the sticker attached to the vehicle’s windshield at toll plazas and deducts the toll fee directly from the Fastag wallet.

Using Fastag does not require drivers to pay toll taxes manually. Its use is intended to reduce time spent at toll plazas and make travel easier for commuters.

You can purchase Fastag from banks and online platforms

You can purchase Fastag from any toll plaza in the country. Besides, you can also buy it from branches of Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, SBI, Kotak Bank. You can also purchase it from online platforms like Paytm, Amazon, Google Pay. You can link your Fastag account with these apps and make payments as well.

If you wish, you can link your bank account with this app. With this, whenever you pass through any toll plaza, toll tax will be deducted from your account. It is necessary to have ID proof and vehicle registration documents with you when purchasing Fastag.

Fastag sticker is valid for 5 years, then it will need to be renewed

Once purchased, the Fastag sticker is valid for 5 years. This means that you will have to change the sticker or renew its validity after 5 years.
