Deepak Mehrotra Appointed as MD and CEO of Akash Education, a Byju Company
Edtech startup Byju’s has appointed Deepak Mehrotra as its new Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The company announced this information on Monday. The position had been vacant since Abhishek Maheshwari resigned in September 2023.
The company issued a statement saying, “Mehrotra has taken charge immediately.” At the same time, Byju Raveendran, the founder and chairman of Byju’s, said, “His (Mehrotra’s) professional expertise and stellar track record will be crucial in driving growth and impact for Byju’s in the next phase of expansion.”
Deepak Mehrotra has over 35 years of experience in executive roles across various sectors, including FMCG, Telecommunications, and Education. Previously, he served as MD at Ashirvad Pipes from 2018 to 2023. Additionally, he has held leadership positions at Pearson India, Bharti Airtel, Coca-Cola, and Asian Paints.
In 2021, Byju’s acquired Akash Educational Services Limited for approximately $1 billion. Akash is known for providing coaching services to students preparing for competitive exams.
