SA20 League Announces Schedule for Third Season
South Africa’s franchise league, SA20, has announced the schedule for its third season, set to begin on January 9 next year. The opening match will feature two-time champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape against MI Cape Town at St. George’s Park, Gqeberha. The final will take place on February 8 at The Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg.
Graeme Smith Excited for the Third Season
SA20 League Commissioner and former South African captain Graeme Smith expressed his excitement for the third season, saying, “We are thrilled to kick off the season in Gqeberha with our defending champions. We look forward to a summer packed with cricketing action. By welcoming international talent into our pool of local stars, we aim to create an unforgettable experience for both players and fans.”
Playoffs to Be Held at Three Venues
After the group stage, the top two teams will face off in Qualifier 1, with the winner advancing directly to the final. This match will be held at St. George’s Park. The third and fourth-placed teams will compete in an Eliminator match, with the winner taking on the loser of Qualifier 1 in Qualifier 2. Both of these matches will be played at Centurion.
Sunrisers Eastern Cape: Back-to-Back Champions
Sunrisers Eastern Cape has won the first two seasons of the league under the captaincy of Aiden Markram. In the inaugural season, they defeated Pretoria Capitals to clinch the title. In the following season, they secured their second consecutive trophy by beating Durban Super Giants in the final.
