Muttiah Muralitharan’s Plan to Invest ₹1642 Crores in Jammu and Kashmir
In the current scenario, Jammu and Kashmir has become a focal point for significant investments. Following the abrogation of Article 370, former Sri Lankan cricketer Muthiah Muralitharan is also impacted by the region’s new industrial policy. He is set to allocate approximately 25 acres (205 kanals) of land in Kathua for a soft drink company’s expansion. Previously, Muralitharan established a beverages and confections plant in Karnataka, and now his company is acquiring land here.
Muralitharan is preparing to invest approximately ₹1,642 crore in Jammu and Kashmir to establish the plant. It is indicated that due to the new industrial policy, Kathua district in Jammu and Kashmir is becoming an industrial hub, resulting in numerous transformations.
Online Land Acquisition Process in Jammu and Kashmir
Former cricketer Muralitharan applied for land acquisition in Jammu and Kashmir online in January. After approval of his application, they visited several plots within three months. Bhagthali village near the Punjab border is being developed as an industrial expansion area, attracting many investors to invest in Kashmir now.
Land Acquisition for New Industrial Expansion

Employment Opportunities for Thousands
In Jammu and Kashmir, company auctions will create employment for more than 5 lakh people. According to a report, the government has received 1902 applications in the Jammu division of Jammu and Kashmir, with a significant number for Kathua district due to its proximity to Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.
In the Kashmir division alone, more than 5000 applications have been received, primarily from small and medium-sized industries.
