Kylian Mbappé Must Execute a Fresh Contract to Prolong Tenure at PSG, Asserts Club President

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) president, Nasser al-Khelaifi, reiterated the club’s stance on Kylian Mbappe’s future, emphasizing that the prolific forward “must sign a new contract” if he intends to continue his tenure at PSG in the upcoming season. Khelaifi made these remarks in response to questions about Mbappe following the introduction of Luis Enrique as the club’s new coach.

The president’s statement underlines the club’s unwavering determination to retain the services of one of the world’s premier players, highlighting the necessity of securing a new agreement to prevent Mbappe from departing on a free transfer. Khelaifi also alluded to the player’s previous declaration of not leaving for free, indicating that any change of heart would not be the responsibility of the club.

In a declaration made last month, Kylian Mbappe expressed his intention not to extend his current contract, which is set to expire next year. However, he has also indicated his desire to remain with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for one final season.

Given Kylian Mbappe’s declaration that he will not extend his contract beyond its expiration next year, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) faces the dilemma of potentially losing the player without any financial compensation. To mitigate this risk, the club is compelled to consider selling Mbappe during the current transfer window. Failing to do so would leave PSG vulnerable to the possibility of losing one of the world’s most coveted players on a free transfer at the conclusion of the upcoming season.

Kylian Mbappe made a significant move from AS Monaco to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in August 2017, in a highly publicized transfer deal valued at 180 million euros ($196 million). Since his arrival at PSG, Mbappe has demonstrated remarkable talent and consistently showcased his skills on the field.

Kylian Mbappe’s extraordinary talent was on full display during the 2022 World Cup final when he scored a remarkable hat-trick for France against Argentina. Despite his exceptional performance, France faced defeat in that particular match. However, Mbappe’s contributions extended beyond the national team as he played a pivotal role in Paris Saint-Germain’s (PSG) triumph, leading them to their record-breaking 11th French title.

During the previous season, Kylian Mbappe emerged as the leading goal scorer in Ligue 1, showcasing his exceptional scoring ability by netting an impressive total of 29 goals.

A year ago, there was widespread anticipation that Kylian Mbappe would depart Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and join Real Madrid, as his previous contract was nearing its expiration. However, in a surprising turn of events, Mbappe decided to commit his future to PSG by agreeing to a new contract, opting to remain in Paris instead.

Kylian Mbappe’s previous contract extension with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) was a two-year deal with the possibility of a third season, effectively extending his stay with the club until 2025.

In May, Kylian Mbappe publicly stated his commitment to honor his contract with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for the upcoming season. He emphasized his intention to play for PSG in the following year, highlighting that he still has one year remaining on his existing contract.

Luis Enrique, who recently signed a two-year contract to become the new coach of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), remained evasive when questioned about any assurances regarding Kylian Mbappe’s presence for the upcoming season. Following his initial evasiveness, Luis Enrique later conveyed his stance that he is counting on all the players who are currently under contract.
