Impact of Curfew in Barbados Post World Cup: Indian Players Stranded Due to Cyclonic Storm

The T20 World Cup-winning Indian team is currently stranded in Barbados because of Hurricane Beryl. The team was scheduled to fly to New York on Monday and then proceed to India. However, the severe weather conditions have disrupted these plans. The hurricane is expected to hit Barbados tonight, leading to the temporary closure of the airport.

Indian Cricket Team to Fly Directly to Delhi Due to Hurricane Beryl

Due to Hurricane Beryl, the Indian cricket team will remain in Barbados until the weather improves and the airport reopens. They will then depart directly for Delhi via a chartered plane. The team may have to wait until late Monday evening or Tuesday morning to leave Barbados, with an expected arrival in India by July 3rd.

Barbados airport has been closed, and a curfew-like situation is in place due to Hurricane Beryl. Residents are not allowed to leave their homes, and the hurricane is expected to make landfall within the next 6 hours. With Beryl upgraded to a Category 4 storm, light rain has already started. The Indian cricket team will remain in their hotel, facing uncertainty about their travel plans over the next 24 hours.

Indian Cricket Team’s T20 World Cup Victory and Current Situation

The Indian cricket team recently won the T20 World Cup 2024 by defeating South Africa by 7 runs in the final held in Barbados on June 29. This victory ended a 17-year wait for the title and helped fans move past the disappointment of losing the ODI World Cup final to Australia on November 19, 2023, in Ahmedabad. Currently, the team is stranded in Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl, awaiting safer travel conditions.

Celebrations in India and Awaited Homecoming of the Indian Cricket Team

After winning the T20 World Cup 2024, the Indian cricket team celebrated on the field, while fans in India burst crackers and waved the national flag. The team’s return is eagerly awaited, with plans for a grand welcome and a victory parade in Delhi, reminiscent of the celebrations in Mumbai in 2011. The team will land directly in Delhi from Barbados, where a grand reception awaits them.

World Champions to Prioritize This Upon Arrival in Delhi

Team India, the reigning world champions, are eagerly awaited back home. It is reported that Indian cricketers may arrive in New Delhi on July 2nd, although adverse weather in Barbados due to Hurricane has caused uncertainty in the schedule. Reports claim that Team India might depart for India tomorrow via a private charter flight.

It is also reported that upon their return, team members will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had already congratulated Team India on their world championship victory through a prior conversation.

Storm Disrupts Plans for Team India’s Return

It was anticipated that the schedule for the Indian team’s return from Barbados could have been finalized earlier, but adverse weather conditions caused by Hurricane have disrupted plans. According to media reports, Team India may step foot on their homeland as early as Tuesday.

India clinched a thrilling victory in a highly anticipated final against South Africa, where Virat Kohli played a magnificent innings and was named the Man of the Match. Despite South Africa’s attempt to chase the target, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya’s superb bowling turned the match in India’s favor.

Suryakumar Yadav’s crucial catch of David Miller at a delicate moment sealed an improbable win for India. The entire nation is celebrating India’s triumph, eagerly awaiting the return of Team India.

There are also reports that upon their return, players of the Indian team will meet with the Prime Minister. It is reported that Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the members of the Indian cricket team via phone on Sunday and praised them for winning the T20 World Cup.

Officials revealed that Modi congratulated Rohit Sharma for his outstanding captaincy and applauded his T20 career. The Prime Minister also appreciated Virat Kohli’s innings in the final match and acknowledged his contribution to Indian cricket.
