Delhi Capitals Make Big Move: Ricky Ponting Removed as Coach, Franchise Announces Decision

Ricky Ponting, the coach of Delhi Capitals, has been removed from his coaching position. Due to his poor performance, the franchise has decided to let him go. The franchise announced this via a tweet. He had been associated with the team for the past seven years, but under his coaching, the team never won a title. Hence, he has been removed from his position.

Delhi Capitals posted on their X account about Ricky, saying, “Dear Ricky, you are no longer our coach. It is very difficult for us to put this into words.” Currently, the franchise has not announced their next coach. It will be interesting to see who will take charge of Delhi now.

Under Ricky Ponting’s captaincy, the Australian team won the World Cup in 2003 and 2007. He was also part of the winning team in the 1999 World Cup. However, he couldn’t achieve anything remarkable for Delhi. In the IPL, Ricky Ponting played 10 matches, scoring a total of 91 runs. He played his last IPL match in 2013 for Mumbai.

He did not get a chance to bat against Delhi. One of Ricky Ponting’s memorable innings includes his unbeaten 140 runs in the 2003 ODI World Cup final against India. At that time, Sourav Ganguly, who is now the Cricket Director of Delhi Capitals, was the captain of the Indian team.
