Dhoni showcased his prowess by dismissing Anuj Rawat with a direct hit, sending him back to the pavilion. Meanwhile, Ajinkya Rahane pulled off a spectacular catch at the boundary, teaming up with Ravindra to grab a breathtaking catch.

Kohli and Dhoni Share a Light Moment on the Pitch

In the IPL’s first match, Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) Virat Kohli took the field as captain, partnering with Faf du Plessis to open the innings. As he stepped onto the pitch, he exchanged greetings with Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) former captain, MS Dhoni.

Both shared a few laughs and jokes before Kohli got down to batting. Meanwhile, Dhoni took charge behind the stumps. Kohli managed to score 21 runs off 20 balls in the match.

Both Virat and Dhoni are former captains of the Indian team and their respective franchises.

First Wide Ball of IPL 2024

The first ball of IPL 2024 was a wide delivery. Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis opened for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Deepak Chahar came to bowl for Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Chahar’s delivery, aimed at the off-side, went outside the good length mark, well beyond the reach of Kohli, who let it go. The umpire signaled it as a wide ball.

Captain du Plessis Scores Season’s First Boundary

Bangalore’s captain, Faf du Plessis, marked the first boundary of the 17th season with a cracking four. Deepak Chahar bowled an inswinging delivery in the first over.

Du Plessis elegantly drove it through the cover region, sending the ball racing to the boundary line. With this shot, du Plessis scored 35 runs off 23 balls.

Faf du Plessis played an innings of 35 runs off 23 balls.

Rachin Ravindra Takes a Spectacular Running Catch

Making his debut for CSK, Rachin Ravindra took a stunning running catch to dismiss Faf du Plessis. In the 5th over, Mustafizur Rahman bowled a delivery outside the off-stump.

Du Plessis attempted a cut shot but only managed to get a thick edge towards the third-man region. The ball seemed to be heading towards the boundary, but Rachin sprinted forward and dived full-length to grasp a remarkable catch, leaving the fans in awe.

Rachin Ravindra caught du Plessis out and sent him to the pavilion for 35 runs.

Rahane and Rachin Combine for a Spectacular Catch on the Boundary

In the 12th over, CSK’s fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman delivered a bouncer to which Kohli attempted a hook shot, directing the ball towards deep mid-wicket. However, the slow pace of the ball made it difficult for Kohli to time his shot properly, resulting in the ball not going as far as expected. As the ball approached the boundary, Ajinkya Rahane positioned himself nearby.

While fielding, Rahane sprinted towards the boundary and attempted a sliding catch, but the ball was slipping away from his grasp towards the boundary line. Realizing he wouldn’t be able to stop it in time, he quickly threw the ball towards Rachin Ravindra, who was stationed nearby. Rachin executed a simple catch effectively, and Kohli was dismissed.

Ajinkya Rahane and Rachin Ravindra combined to send Virat Kohli to the pavilion.

Mustafizur Dismisses Cameron Green with a Straight Delivery

In the 12th over of RCB’s innings, Mustafizur Rahman bowled Cameron Green, who came to the crease after Virat Kohli’s dismissal. On the second ball of the over, Green arrived at the crease for a single.

Mustafizur bowled a length delivery, attempting to induce an edge from Green, but his effort proved unsuccessful as the ball went straight to hit the stumps. In this over, Mustafizur claimed 2 wickets.

Mustafizur Rahman took a total of 4 wickets in the match.

Dhoni’s Direct Throw Sends Ravat Packing

Anuj Rawat and Dinesh Karthik had contributed significantly to their team’s total, forming a partnership of 95 runs. In the final over of the innings, Dhoni dismissed Rawat with a direct hit.

On the last ball of the innings, the batsman played a shot that went towards the off-stump. Karthik couldn’t play it properly. Subsequently, Rawat attempted to steal a run from the non-striker’s end but failed.

Dhoni executed an under-arm throw, hitting the stumps directly. As the bails dislodged from the stumps, Ravat was found short of the crease, thanks to Karthik’s quick reflexes.

Dhoni took 2 catches and one run out in the match.

Maxwell Takes a Stunning Jumping Catch on the Boundary

In the 11th over of CSK’s innings, Glenn Maxwell took a breathtaking jumping catch on the boundary to dismiss Ajinkya Rahane. Rahane attempted a pull shot on a length ball from Cameron Green, aiming towards the square leg boundary.

Due to Maxwell's catch, Rahane had to return to the pavilion after scoring 23 runs.

Maxwell, positioned near the boundary, leaped high in the air as he sprinted towards the ball, managing to grab it just before it crossed the boundary line. Rahane had scored 23 runs before being dismissed.
