New Controversy Before Champions Trophy: Pakistan’s Name Missing from Team India’s Jersey, Here’s the Issue

In the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025, matches will be held under a ‘Hybrid Model’ in three Pakistani cities – Rawalpindi, Karachi, and Lahore – as well as in Dubai. The tournament is set to begin on February 19.

India will play all of its matches in Dubai. Although Pakistan is the official host for the tournament, a new controversy has already emerged before its commencement.

What is the Entire Issue?

In reality, the name of Pakistan, the official host of this tournament, will not appear on the Indian cricket team’s jersey this time. India has allegedly raised objections against the word “Pakistan” (the host country’s name) being printed on the Indian team’s jersey.

A PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) official has stated that the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) is politicizing cricket by objecting to the printing of Pakistan’s name on the Indian team’s jersey. Previously, the Indian board had denied sending Captain Rohit Sharma to Pakistan for a meeting regarding the Champions Trophy. In addition, BCCI had earlier refused to send the Indian team to Pakistan for the tournament.

Multiple Controversies Before the Tournament Begins

After much discussion, PCB and ICC agreed to host the tournament under a Hybrid Model. Despite several requests from the PCB, the BCCI has not changed its stance on sending the Indian team to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. Ultimately, the Pakistan board had to accept India’s conditions.

However, under the new agreement, PCB will not send the Pakistani team to India for future ICC events. With almost a month left before the Champions Trophy begins, a new controversy has surfaced. Pakistan has yet to announce its team for the tournament, while India has already made its announcement.
