BCCI Reveals Full Schedule for India’s Upcoming Tour of South Africa

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Cricket South Africa (CSA) recently announced the eagerly awaited schedule for Team India’s upcoming tour to South Africa, scheduled to take place in December-January. This series holds significant importance as it marks India’s first assignment following the conclusion of the ICC World Cup 2023. The tour encompasses a three-match T20I series, a three-match ODI series, and culminates with the highly anticipated Freedom Series for the Gandhi-Mandela Trophy, consisting of two Test matches.

“The Freedom Series holds tremendous significance, not only due to the participation of two exceptional Test teams but also because it pays homage to the legacies of Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela, two remarkable leaders who have left an indelible mark on our respective nations and the world at large. The Boxing Day Test and the New Year Test, fixtures of utmost importance on the international cricket calendar, have been thoughtfully incorporated into the schedule. It has been strategically planned to accommodate these marquee dates. South Africa has always been a gracious host for Indian cricket, and we anticipate strong support from fans who can expect enthralling contests brimming with intensity,” commented BCCI Secretary, Jay Shah.

The Complete Schedule for Team India’s Tour of South Africa is as Follows:

T20I Series:

T20I 1: December 10, Durban

T20I 2: December 12, Gqeberha

T20I 3: December 14, Johannesburg

ODI Series:

ODI 2: December 19, Gqeberha

ODI 3: December 21, Paarl

Please note that the venues mentioned are Durban, Gqeberha, Johannesburg, and Paarl, respectively, for the respective matches.

Currently, the Indian cricket team is engaged in a Test series against West Indies in Dominica. Following the conclusion of this series, the team’s next significant assignment will be the two-match Gandhi-Mandela Test series. This series assumes immense importance as it serves as a crucial test for India within the World Test Championship cycle of 2023-2025.

“I am eagerly anticipating the arrival of the Indian Cricket Team and their passionate fans to South Africa. This tour holds great significance for both teams, and I am delighted that we will witness a comprehensive tour featuring all three formats of the game. South Africa and India possess exceptional cricketing talent, and we can expect enthralling matches and exhilarating cricketing encounters. This tour also provides us with an opportunity to showcase the best of South Africa, as we have strategically spread out the matches across the nation. We have a strong and amicable relationship with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), and I extend my gratitude to them for their unwavering support throughout the process,” expressed Lawson Naidoo, Chairperson of Cricket South Africa (CSA).
