BCCI Announces Pant’s Fitness: Ready for IPL Duties; Surya to Miss 2 Matches, Shami Out of IPL

Delhi Capitals’ dynamic wicketkeeper-batsman, Rishabh Pant, has successfully passed his fitness test, as confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Pant’s fitness clearance comes as a positive development for the Delhi-based franchise ahead of the upcoming cricket season. Meanwhile, the fast bowlers, Mohammad Shami from Gujarat Titans and Krishnappa Gowtham from Rajasthan Royals, have been ruled out of contention for the upcoming tournaments due to undisclosed reasons.

On the other hand, Mumbai Indians’ key player, Suryakumar Yadav, will miss the first two matches of the IPL season. Despite undergoing surgery, Yadav has yet to regain full fitness, prompting his absence from the initial fixtures.

Pant Fit for IPL – BCCI Update

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has provided an update regarding Rishabh Pant, along with the renowned Krishna and Mohammad Shami. The board stated that after a 14-month-long rehabilitation and recovery process, Rishabh Pant is now fit for wicket keeping and batting duties. He is eligible to participate in IPL 2024.

The board further announced that both Krishna and Mohammad Shami are currently sidelined due to injuries. As a result, neither player will be able to participate in the upcoming IPL matches.

Suryakumar Sidelined in South Africa

Suryakumar Yadav last engaged in international cricket for India back in December 2023. During this time, he captained the Indian team in a T20 series against South Africa. However, amidst his efforts to stop a boundary during fielding, he sustained an injury.

Surya suffered a groin injury, prompting his return to India for medical attention. He underwent hernia surgery and subsequently commenced rehabilitation under the National Cricket Academy (NCA). As of now, there hasn’t been any official update regarding his fitness from the NCA.

Potential Return in April

Due to his surgery, Suryakumar’s return has not been confirmed yet. After being injured in December, he has been recuperating at the NCA but hasn’t received clearance for his comeback. According to reports by The Times of India, Suryakumar may miss the first two matches for Mumbai Indians (MI).

The 17th season of IPL commenced on March 22nd. Mumbai’s first match is scheduled against Gujarat Titans on March 24th, followed by a clash with Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 27th. It seems challenging for Surya to feature in both encounters.

However, as per speculations, Suryakumar could make his return to the field in April. On April 1st, Mumbai Indians will face Rajasthan Royals in their third match of the league phase. Suryakumar might have the chance to participate in this game.
