Aryan Becomes ‘Anaya’: Cricketer Sanjay Bangar’s Son Undergoes Gender Change, Writes – Losing Strength, but Gaining Happiness
Aryan (now Anaya), the son of former Indian all-rounder Sanjay Bangar, shared her experience of undergoing gender transition (hormonal transformation) on Monday. Aryan had started hormone replacement therapy (HRT) 11 months ago.
The 23-year-old Aryan posted a video on social media and wrote, “I am losing strength, but also gaining happiness. My body is changing, and dysphoria is decreasing… there is still a long way to go, but every step feels more like me.”
Anaya (formerly Aryan) is also a cricketer. She is a left-handed batsman who plays for the local cricket club, Islam Gymkhana. She has also scored several runs for Hinckley Cricket Club in Leicestershire.
Career Ended Due to ECB’s Regulations
On October 20, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) imposed a ban on transgender women in professional women’s cricket. As a result, Aryan (now Anaya) will no longer be able to participate in women’s cricket.
Emotional Farewell to the Game I Love
In a previous post, Anaya wrote:
“I never thought I would have to give up the game that has been my passion and love, but here I am, facing a painful reality. After undergoing hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and transitioning to a trans woman, my body has changed significantly. I am losing my muscle mass, strength, muscle memory, and athletic abilities that I once relied on. The game I have loved for so long is slipping away from me.”
What is Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)?
Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) is a process where a person’s gender is changed by altering their hormones. This may also involve plastic surgery. It was officially recognized in India in 2014.
The entire process of gender transition surgery involves at least four doctors: a psychiatrist, a surgeon, a gynecologist, and a neurosurgeon. Doctors state that this surgery is only performed on individuals over the age of 21. For those under this age, surgery can only be carried out with written consent from their parents.
