Former Indian Cricketer and Team India Coach Anshuman Gaekwad Passes Away
Former Indian cricketer and Team India coach, Anshuman Gaekwad from Vadodara, has passed away after a prolonged battle with blood cancer. Notably, Kapil Dev had initiated efforts to assist Anshuman after witnessing his condition, deciding to donate his pension for Anshuman’s aid.
Other former cricketers such as Mohinder Amarnath, Sandeep Patil, Madan Lal, and Kirti Azad also stepped forward to help their teammate. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) contributed by announcing a sum of ₹1 crore for Anshuman’s treatment. Anshuman was once known as the Great Wall of Indian Cricket.
Former World Cup Winning Captain Kapil Dev on His Assistance
Just a few days ago, in an interview with Sportsstar, Kapil Dev mentioned, “If the family permits, we are ready to donate our pension amount to the fund.”
Kapil Dev further stated, “This is sad news. I feel very sorrowful because I have played with Anshu and cannot see him in this condition. No one should have to endure this. I know the board will take care of him.” He also added, “We are not putting pressure on anyone. Anyone can help Anshu in any way they can.”
“Anshu stood tall against the fast bowlers of his time. Now it’s time for us to stand with him in his difficult times. I am confident that cricket fans will not disappoint me. They should pray for Anshuman’s speedy recovery.”
