Abhishek Sharma’s Explosive Fifty in 16 Balls: Credits Brian Lara Chat; Parents Witness Heroics at Stadium
Abhishek Sharma has revealed his batting strategy to score a record fifty in just 16 balls for Sunrisers Hyderabad. He stated that discussing batting with Brian Lara before the match is beneficial. He also received significant support from his batting partner, Travis Head.
With Abhishek’s fifty, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) made the highest total in the history of IPL against Mumbai Indians on Wednesday. The team scored 277 runs in 20 overs. Abhishek contributed 63 runs before getting out, earning him the Player of the Match award for his performance.
Abhishek – Domestic Season Boosts Our Confidence
Abhishek Sharma mentioned in the post-match conference, “I have always said that playing domestic cricket brings a lot of benefits and boosts confidence. When batting with the head, the message was simple that you have to express yourself on the pitch. The head said that if you get a chance to see the ball in court, you have to play the shot, and I did the same.”
I am Happy with My Performance, Opening Not Necessary: Abhishek Sharma
“I am happy with my performance. Getting the opening slot is not necessary for me. I enjoy batting in every position. I had a chat with Brian Lara before the match, and talking to him gave me confidence. Now, even during practice sessions, I am focusing more on bowling while batting, which has helped me improve my concentration,” said Abhishek Sharma.
Brian Lara is the former coach of SRH. After his departure, Daniel Vettori from New Zealand has taken over as the team’s coach.
Parents Came to Watch the Match, So I Batted Well
Abhishek Sharma said, “The secret of my performance is that my parents came to watch my match. They hadn’t watched my match for a long time, and when they came yesterday, I batted freely.”
Fastest Fifty Record Broken by Head
Abhishek Sharma came to bat for SRH at number three on Wednesday. Before his innings, Travis Head had smashed a half-century in just 18 balls, which was the fastest fifty for SRH. Abhishek Sharma broke this record by scoring his fifty in just 22 minutes, facing only 16 balls.
Abhishek made 63 runs off 23 balls before getting out. His innings included 7 fours and 3 sixes. At the time of his dismissal, the team’s score was 161 runs in 11 overs. From there, in the last 9 overs, the team scored more than 114 runs without losing any more wickets.
Mumbai Indians also displayed excellent batting against the target of 278 runs. They scored 246 runs, losing the match by just 31 runs. Abhishek Sharma was awarded the Player of the Match for his performance.
In the T20 tournament, Syed Mushtaq Ali scored 485 runs for Punjab at an average of 48.50. This was before the IPL, and Abhishek Sharma’s domestic cricket season was also impressive. He emerged as the second-highest run-scorer in the tournament, featuring centuries and half-centuries in his innings.
