Abha Khattua Sets New National Record in Shot Put

On the second day of the National Federation Cup Athletics, Abha Khattua set a new national record in shot put with a throw of 18.41 meters. Previously, she had set the record with a throw of 18.06 meters alongside Manpreet Kaur.

Abha achieved the national record with her fifth attempt at the National Federation Cup held at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. Her attempt of 18.41 meters surpassed the previous national record. However, her attempt fell short of the Olympic qualifying mark of 18.80 meters.

The last date for Olympic qualification is June 30. Abha is yet to secure qualification for the Olympics. In this event, Kiran Baliyan from Uttar Pradesh stood second with a throw of 16.54 meters, followed by Srishti Vig from Delhi with 15.86 meters.

Odisha’s Animesh Kujur Sets New National Record in Men’s 200m Final

Animesh Kujur from Odisha sprinted to victory in the men’s 200 meters final with a time of 20.62 seconds. This performance resulted in Amalanan Borgohain’s two-year-old national record of 20.52 seconds being surpassed. In this event, Sangumaa from Andhra Pradesh secured second place with a time of 20.97 seconds, followed by Jay Shah from Maharashtra with a time of 21.31 seconds.

Anikesh Choudhary, Somanath Chauhan, and Muhammad Afsal P. Excel in 800m

Anikesh Choudhary from Himachal Pradesh clinched the first position in the 800 meters event with a time of 1:50.16 seconds, followed closely by Somanath Chauhan from Haryana, also with a time of 1:50.16 seconds. Muhammad Afsal P. from Kerala secured the third position with a time of 1:50.44 seconds.
