Shah Rukh Khan has emerged as the highest tax-paying celebrity in India, having paid ₹92 crores in taxes. On Wednesday, Fortune India released a list of Indian celebrities who paid the most taxes in the financial year 2023-24. Following King Khan on the list is Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay, who paid ₹80 crores in taxes. Other notable names in the top 5 include Amitabh Bachchan and Salman Khan. Among Indian athletes, Virat Kohli leads the list.
In terms of tax payments, Aamir Khan lags behind Kareena Kapoor, Kapil Sharma, and Pankaj Tripathi. Pankaj paid ₹11 crores, while Aamir paid ₹10 crores in taxes. Surprisingly, Akshay Kumar is no longer in the top 20.
Shah Rukh Khan’s Wealth Increases by ₹1300 Crores in 2022-23
In 2023, Shah Rukh Khan’s net worth surged by ₹1300 crores. According to Forbes, his total wealth in 2022 stood at ₹5116 crores, which has now increased by 8% following the success of Jawan and Pathaan. Pathaan alone collected ₹1050 crores at the box office.
As per a report from the Times of India, Shah Rukh signed a 60% profit-sharing contract with Yash Raj Productions for Pathaan and also took a ₹100 crore fee for the film. Additionally, Jawan was produced by Shah Rukh’s own production house, Red Chillies Entertainment, allowing him to directly profit from OTT and channel rights.
Shah Rukh Khan’s net worth now stands at ₹6411 crores, making him the fourth richest actor in the world. In terms of earnings, Shah Rukh has surpassed Jackie Chan (₹3359 crores) and Tom Cruise (₹5039 crores).
Kareena Kapoor Becomes India’s Highest Tax-Paying Female Celebrity
Actress Kareena Kapoor has become the highest tax-paying female celebrity in India, paying ₹20 crores in taxes for the financial year 2024. She ranks above Shahid Kapoor and South star Mohanlal, both of whom paid ₹18 crores in taxes. Comedian Kapil Sharma stands 11th on the list, having paid ₹26 crores in taxes.
Akshay Kumar Drops Out of the Top 20, Paid ₹25 Crores in Taxes Last Year
Akshay Kumar’s name is missing from Fortune’s top 20 highest tax-paying celebrities list this year. In the previous financial year 2022-23, he paid ₹25 crores in taxes and was recognized as the highest tax-paying celebrity in 2023. For his contributions, he was awarded a certificate of honor by the Income Tax Department.
