The film The Sabarmati Report, produced by Ekta Kapoor and starring Vikrant Massey and Rashi Khanna, which was released on November 15, is currently making headlines. The film is based on the 2002 Godhra incident, one of the most controversial issues in Indian politics. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will watch the film today at the City Gold Cinema on Ashram Road in Ahmedabad. There are also possibilities of the film being declared tax-free in Gujarat.
Additionally, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel is expected to meet with film producer Ekta Kapoor and veteran actor Jeetendra.
Recently, the film was made tax-free in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced the decision and encouraged other leaders to watch the film. “Truth is Coming Out” – PM Modi on The Sabarmati Report
On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the film The Sabarmati Report. He retweeted a tweet by a user about the film, which said, “Truth always comes out.” PM Modi added, “It’s a good thing that the truth is coming out, and in such a way that ordinary people can see it. False narratives can only last for a short time; ultimately, the facts emerge.”
The tweet PM Modi retweeted was from a journalist who recommended watching the film. The tweet mentioned that the film reveals the truth about one of the most shameful events in our history. The filmmakers were praised for their respect and sensitivity in creating the film, which shows how certain politicians exploited the tragedy of burning passengers in a train to tarnish a leader’s image.
Home Minister Amit Shah Praises The Sabarmati Report
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also praised the film The Sabarmati Report through his official social media handle. He shared a post by a social media user, which listed several reasons to watch the film.
Amit Shah wrote, “No matter how much any powerful ecosystem tries, the truth can never be hidden. The film The Sabarmati Report courageously rejects this ecosystem and brings the truth of this event, which has impacted the future.”
PM Modi Had Also Praised The Kashmir Files
PM Modi had previously praised the films The Kashmir Files and Article 370. On March 12, 2022, the makers of The Kashmir Files met with the Prime Minister. Sharing a photo of the meeting, the film’s producer Abhishek Agarwal wrote, “It was a great honor to meet Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
This meeting became even more special as he praised The Kashmir Files. We are proud to have made this film. Thank you, Modi Ji.”
What is the Godhra Incident?
On February 27, 2002, a mob set fire to the S6 coach of the Sabarmati Express at Godhra station, resulting in the deaths of 58 karsevaks who were aboard the train. This incident triggered widespread riots across Gujarat in 2002. Nearly nine years later, in the trial related to the aftermath of the Godhra incident, 31 people were found guilty.
In 2011, the SIT court sentenced 11 convicts to death and 20 others to life imprisonment. However, in October 2017, the Gujarat High Court commuted the death sentences of the 11 convicts to life imprisonment.
