Marathi Actress Ketaki Chitale Is In Trouble: Files FIR Over Alleged Atrocity Act
Police announced on Friday that a case has been filed against Marathi actress Ketaki Chitale for allegedly hurting sentiments under the SC-ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Unraveling the Incident
During a ‘Brahman Akyaa Parishad’ gathering in Palghar district, Maharashtra, on February 25th, the Marathi actress had demanded an investigation into cases filed under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act over the past five years. She stated, “This information should be obtained under the Right to Information Act because a racket has emerged to file false cases under the Atrocity Act.”
Actress Files Complaint
Following an online speech by local resident Premnath Jagatkar, a police complaint was lodged at the Palghar city police station. Ketaki Chitale and conference organizer Bajirao Dharmadhikari were charged under sections 295-A (Deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings) and 505 (2) (Statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred, or ill-will between classes) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). However, no arrests have been made in this case.
Past Encounters with Law
This isn’t Ketaki Chitale’s first brush with the law. In 2022, she faced legal action for sharing derogatory posts about NCP leader Sharad Pawar on social media. She was subsequently granted bail in that case as well.
