Delhi HC: Permission Required for Using Jackie Shroff’s Voice ‘Bhidu’, Image; Violators Will Be Fined

Recently, Jackie Shroff filed a petition in the Delhi High Court. He argued that some social media handles are using AI to exploit his identity for monetary gain. Additionally, names associated with him, such as Jackie, Bhidu, and Jaggu Dada, are being misused on public platforms. To stop this misuse, Jackie Shroff approached the court.
Court’s Acknowledgment of Jackie Shroff’s Right to Personality
In its ruling on May 15, the Delhi High Court issued notices to all individuals and companies using Jackie Shroff’s identity without permission. The court acknowledged that as a celebrity, Jackie Shroff has the right to protect his image. If anyone is making money by using his name and identity, the actor has the full right to take action against them.
What Was Jackie Shroff’s Argument?
In his petition, Jackie Shroff stated that objectionable memes are being created using his photographs, and his voice is being similarly misused. Additionally, obscene content is being created using his photos. The court immediately took cognizance of this matter.
Amitabh Bachchan Has Already Secured Personality Rights
Celebrities in India have become more aware of personality rights. Last year, the Delhi High Court prohibited the use of Amitabh Bachchan’s name, voice, and photo without his permission. The court issued this interim order on his petition.
