Sonu Nigam Denies Reports of Stone Pelting at His Concert, Reveals the Truth Behind the Incident
Bollywood singer Sonu Nigam has dismissed media reports claiming that there was chaos and violence at his recent concert. Some reports alleged that the singer was attacked with stones and bottles during his live performance. However, Nigam clarified the situation, stating that no such incident occurred and revealed the real reason behind the brief disruption at his concert.
Sonu Nigam Clarifies the Incident
The incident took place at Delhi Technological University’s (DTU) “Engifest 2025,” where Sonu Nigam was performing live. Several reports surfaced claiming that stones and bottles were thrown at the singer during the concert. In response, Sonu Nigam shared a detailed post on Instagram, debunking the rumors.
He stated, “Some media reports claimed that stones and bottles were thrown during my DTU concert, but this is completely false. Someone threw a vape (a type of electronic cigarette) on stage, which hit my team member, Shubhankar, on the chest. I was informed about it, and I immediately stopped the show to address the audience. I reminded them that if such incidents happened again, the concert would have to be halted. After that, only one more thing was thrown on stage—a ‘pooky’ hairband, which was actually a gesture of love.”
False Claims of Violence at the Concert
Before Sonu Nigam addressed the situation, reports suggested that a crowd of over one lakh students had gathered at the venue, and some individuals had allegedly thrown stones and bottles at him, forcing him to stop singing. However, the singer denied these allegations, emphasizing that he had only requested the audience to maintain decorum.
According to Hindustan Times, Nigam was heard urging the crowd, saying, “I am here for you so that we can have a great time together. I am not stopping you from enjoying, but please don’t engage in such behavior.” He also mentioned that such actions were causing harm to his team members.
Other Celebrities Who Have Faced Similar Incidents
This is not the first time a celebrity has faced such a situation during a live performance. International artists like Billie Eilish, rapper Cardi B, and Indian singers Sunidhi Chauhan and Karan Aujla have also been targeted during concerts. Sonu Nigam himself has previously encountered similar false reports and has strongly condemned them.
Sonu Nigam’s Legacy in Bollywood
Sonu Nigam is one of India’s most celebrated playback singers, having sung for nearly 320 films over his three-decade-long career. He is known for hit songs like “Tera Milna,” “Deewana Tera,” “Abhi Mujh Mein Kahin,” and “Yeh Dil Deewana.” He has won two Filmfare Awards and also received the National Film Award for the title track of Kal Ho Naa Ho.
By addressing the recent controversy, Sonu Nigam has set the record straight, reassuring fans that his concert was not disrupted by violence but was rather a minor incident that was handled responsibly.
