A shocking incident occurred when stones were hurled at the Tapti Ganga Express, traveling from Surat to Prayagraj for the Mahakumbh Mela. The B-6 coach of the train was targeted near Jalgaon in Maharashtra, leading to shattered windows and panic among passengers, including children and women. Videos of the incident have surfaced on social media, sparking concern.
Window Shattered in B-6 Coach
The Tapti Ganga Express departed from Udhna Railway Station in Surat, carrying a large number of devotees heading to Prayagraj for the first Shahi Snan of the Mahakumbh Mela. Among the passengers in the B-6 coach were five children, six elderly individuals, 13 women, and 12 men, all from Surat. Approximately 45% of the train’s passengers were en route to the Kumbh Mela.
As the train passed through Jalgaon, stones were thrown at the B-6 coach, breaking its window. This created fear and chaos among the passengers, especially women and children. For two to three hours, the incident went unreported until passengers shared videos on social media.
Passengers in Panic
The attack caused widespread panic among the passengers. Despite the fear, no immediate report was made to authorities. Eventually, videos of the incident were shared online, drawing attention to the matter.
Central Railway Initiates Investigation
Central Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Swapnil Nila, confirmed the incident, stating that the RPF (Railway Protection Force) acted swiftly. A team of four RPF personnel was deployed on the train, and a formal complaint was lodged. The train has since reached Itarsi and is expected to arrive in Prayagraj by morning.
CCTV footage is being reviewed to identify suspects. Authorities suspect the act was carried out by miscreants, as only one window of the B-6 coach was damaged. The investigation continues, but officials believe the incident is unrelated to the Mahakumbh Mela.
Railways Ensure Safety Measures
Railway officials emphasized that such incidents are rare and immediate steps are being taken to prevent recurrence. The RPF is conducting thorough investigations and monitoring the situation closely to ensure the safety of passengers.
