Fake Notes of Various Denominations Found in Ahmedabad Banks

Ahmedabad’s Reserve Bank and other bank branches have detected 1697 counterfeit currency notes of various denominations, including ₹20, ₹50, ₹100, ₹200, and ₹500. Shockingly, even “Children Bank” notes, a type of fake currency, have made their way into banking systems. The total value of these counterfeit notes is estimated at ₹4.98 lakh. The Ahmedabad Special Operations Group (SOG) is investigating the origin and circulation of these fake notes.

Widespread Circulation of Fake Notes

Reports suggest that people seeking shortcuts to quick money are flooding the market with counterfeit notes, harming the nation’s economy. While ₹500 counterfeit notes are commonly seen, the presence of fake notes in smaller denominations has raised concerns. Some notes were found torn or taped, adding to suspicions about their authenticity.

Investigation Underway

Authorities are now tracing the origin of these fake notes and their usage in transactions. The SOG has launched a detailed investigation to identify the perpetrators and prevent further circulation. Earlier instances of counterfeit notes seized from the Reserve Bank have also been linked to similar cases.
