Jignesh Mevani Threatens Strong Protest Over Ambedkar Statue Vandalism

Congress MLA Jignesh Mevani has stated that the comment made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Parliament against Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar has caused widespread anger among Dalits across India and Gujarat. Mevani emphasized that the issue of Ambedkar’s statue being damaged in Ahmedabad’s Khokhra area is a direct result of this provocation.

He alleged that certain casteist elements in Gujarat are being supported by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, fostering a mentality that leads to actions like damaging the statue.

Mevani condemned these acts as attempts to incite anger and unrest within the Dalit community. He called for the immediate arrest of the culprits involved in vandalizing the statue within 24 hours, or else he threatened to launch a fierce protest.

He stated that these actions were aimed at disrupting the peace of Gujarat and the nation, and warned that such actions would only further provoke the Dalit community.

BJP MLA from Maninagar Amul Bhatt reached the spot.

“Arrest Antisocial Elements and Publicly Shame Them” – Congress Corporator’s Demand

In a conversation with Source, Amraiwadi Corporator Jagdish Rathod stated that antisocial elements attempted to disrupt the peace of the city by vandalizing Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s statue in Khokhra, near Jayanti Vekil’s residence, early in the morning.

Rathod linked this act of vandalism to the controversial remarks made by the Union Home Minister in Parliament about Babasaheb Ambedkar. He suggested that these antisocial actions were an attempt to divert attention from the ongoing protests against the Home Minister’s comments.

He demanded that a police complaint be filed immediately, and that the antisocial elements responsible be arrested and publicly shamed. Rathod further criticized the state Home Minister, urging that if they truly respect Babasaheb Ambedkar’s Constitution, as they claim, they should show it by taking swift and decisive action against the culprits.
