Multi-Story Building Collapses in Punjab: Gym & PG Crushed, Basement Digging Blamed
On Saturday evening, a three-story building collapsed in Mohali, Punjab. It is suspected that 15 people may be trapped under the debris. Police and administration have initiated rescue operations, and an NDRF team has been called in.
Building Housed a Gym, Weak Foundation Suspected
According to preliminary information, the building housed a gym. Excavation work was being carried out in the basement nearby, which is believed to have weakened the foundation and caused the building to collapse.
Gym Was Operational at the Time of Collapse
At the time of the collapse, the gym was open, raising concerns that visitors to the gym might be trapped under the debris. However, no official confirmation has been made yet regarding the number of casualties.
Authorities Attempting to Contact Gym Operators
The administration is trying to contact the gym operators. According to various media reports, between 10 and 50 people are feared to be trapped under the rubble.
Police: Number of People Inside Still Uncertain
A police officer present at the site stated that it is currently difficult to ascertain how many people were inside the gym and might be trapped under the debris. Rescue operations are ongoing.
Building Was Approximately 10 Years Old
Local residents reported that the collapsed multi-story building was around ten years old.
Rescue Teams at the Site, Operations Underway
According to Mohali Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain, rescue teams have arrived at the site. Efforts to clear the debris and save those trapped have commenced.
AAP MP Confirms NDRF Deployment
AAP MP Malvinder Kang from Anandpur Sahib confirmed that an NDRF team has been deployed. He mentioned that the gym in question was frequented by young people, but it is still unclear if anyone was inside at the time of the collapse.
No Injuries Reported So Far
Mohali SSP Deepak Parikh stated that rescue teams are actively working at the site. No injuries have been reported so far. However, efforts are being made to quickly locate anyone who might be trapped under the debris.
