PV Sindhu Wins Syed Modi Badminton Championship; Trisha-Gayatri Clinch Historic Gold
The final of the Saiyed Modi India International Badminton Championship was held on Sunday at the BBD Stadium in Lucknow. India won its first-ever gold in women’s doubles. The pair of Trisha Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand defeated China’s Bao Li Jing and Li Kian with a score of 21-18, 21-11 to secure the victory.
PV Sindhu Wins Women’s Singles Title
In women’s singles, India’s top-ranked PV Sindhu defeated China’s Wu Luo Yun with a margin of 21-16 to win the match. After 2022, Sindhu has won the Saiyed Modi Championship again, having previously won in 2017. She reached the finals in 2019 but lost.
India Loses in Mixed Doubles Category
In the mixed doubles category, India’s fifth-ranked Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto lost to Thailand’s sixth-ranked duo, De Puwa Runkhro and Supisara Pawasanpran. The Indian pair won the first set and made a comeback in the final, but the Thai players made a strong comeback in the last set. Thailand’s players won the final with a score of 21-18, 14-21, 8-21.
China Wins Men’s Doubles
In men’s doubles, India’s Pruthvi Krishnamurthy Roy and Sai Pratik played against China’s Huang De and Li Yu Yang. After losing the first set, the Indian players made a comeback. However, they lost in the final set. The Chinese players won with a score of 14-21, 21-19, 21-17.
