Opposition Threatens Protest in Gandhian Style Over Toll Tax Hike
In the memorandum, the opposition highlighted the significant increase in toll tax at the Karjan toll plaza on the National Highway. They pointed out that previously, a vehicle passing through would pay the return toll tax only once within 24 hours. However, now, with each trip, toll tax is deducted multiple times.
The opposition expressed their strong objection to this practice, emphasizing that despite these high toll charges, serious accidents continue to occur, and the road conditions are often in poor shape. They warned that if the frequent toll tax hikes are not reversed, the Aam Aadmi Party, along with the public, would launch a protest following the path of Gandhi’s peaceful methods.
AAP Criticizes Toll Tax Hike and Road Conditions in Vadodara
Virendra Rami, the President of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for the Vadodara city, criticized the recent toll tax hike at the Karjan toll plaza. He highlighted that earlier, the toll tax of ₹155 allowed for 24 hours of free passage, but now it has been increased to ₹230 for a one-time pass, which he strongly opposed.
Rami also pointed out that the road conditions are in poor shape, and the Jambua Bridge ahead is very narrow, leading to severe traffic jams. He noted that this worsens the situation, causing additional pollution from vehicle emissions, further affecting the public’s daily commute.
