Travel Insurance Options for Domestic & International Trips: Coverage for Flight Disruptions Due to Bomb Threats

Rising Demand for Travel Insurance Amid Increasing Domestic and International Travel

Over the past two to three years, the trend of domestic and international travel has grown significantly, leading to a rising demand for travel insurance. Recently, several flights have been delayed or canceled due to bomb threats. In situations like flight delays, airlines must provide meals, alternative flights, or full ticket refunds, following the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) guidelines.

However, these compensations do not apply when delays occur due to extraordinary events beyond the airline’s control, such as bomb threats. If a trip is canceled because of a bomb threat, the airline will not cover the losses. In such cases, travel insurance can offer relief. Depending on the policy terms, international travelers can file claims for flight delays or diversions caused by bomb threats.

International Travel Insurance Coverage Up to ₹4 Lakhs

International travel policies generally offer substantial compensation. Trip delay coverage ranges from ₹4,200 to ₹84,000. Insurance companies may cover hotel expenses up to ₹4 lakhs in emergencies. Additionally, they may provide a daily allowance of ₹10,500 if travelers are stranded. However, the coverage varies depending on the policy and insurance provider.

Premiums Up to 10% of Travel Costs

Travel insurance premiums generally amount to 4–10% of total travel expenses. Premium rates depend on factors like the destination, type of coverage, traveler’s age, and the insurance provider.

This coverage ensures peace of mind and financial security, safeguarding travelers against unpredictable disruptions.
